Jill over at Feministe has hit the stupidity of her insurer's stupidity; Gardasil, the vaccine that prevents women from getting HPV which is the leading cause of cervical cancer, isn't covered by her insurance:

My school insurance didn’t cover Gardasil, the HPV vaccine. So I waited until I got a job, found a new doctor and started on private insurance. The new doc is great, and she gave me a Gardasil prescription on my first visit, saying that I have to get it filled at the pharmacy but that insurance should cover it. I’m supposed to go back today and get the first round.

I went to get it filled yesterday. Turns out my insurance doesn’t cover “injectables.” I don’t really have an extra $600 to spend on a vaccine right now (it’s $200 per shot, and it’s a three-round vaccine), but I think I’m going to have to just suck it up and do it anyway. What’s another $600 when I already have $200,000 in student loan debt, right?

The U.S. health care system sucks.

Be sure to read the comments.

I'm begining to not want to be bothered reading comments anywhere. Given that the DV stuff I was checking up on became absolutely bloated with comments about how anti-DV policies unfairly discriminate against men - women, after all, violently abuse men vastly more often and should be punished and aren't, and men don't commit DV. Unless women drive them to, in which case it's women doing it because they hate men, etc...

The sad thing is, the policies being discussed were gender neutral.
