I remember reading somewhere that drier lint makes a good firestarter. Last night I tried it, and yes, it's true. Save the lint from your drier to start fires in your fireplace. Also, pinecones gathered by the side of the road catch quickly, burn hot and fast, and burn with a lovely blue edge to the flame. You can also collect pine nuts from certain kinds of pinecones, and they are delicious roasted.

I'd be afraid the mats would smell of burning hair! Just be sure the flue is open before you light one.
