For my birthday I would like...
Nov. 16th, 2008 10:07 pmI would like an application that does the following:
Upon launch, an image browser opens and I can navigate to
1.individual folders,
2.allows me to search for a specific filename.
3.It would list all images found,
3.a or in a folder
3.b at full (or near full) resolution,
3.b.1 or with a grid view with resizable thumbnails
3.c with the option to fit to window/screen,
3.d rotate
3.e open the file Photoshop
4. delete it, or multiple images/folder/s all at once
5. move it to another folder (click and drag)
6. Display exif data
7.Resort by date/filename/location
8. It must support:
8.a. Jpg
8.b. all RAW fils
8.c. PNG
8.d. GIF
8.e. TIFF
8.f. BMP
9. I really don't want it to make thumbnails that over ride the icons in the finder.
This is the kicker: It has to run on 10.3.x. Because it's not for me, it's for a friend who is using a G3 iBook with only 18 gigs hd space, and only about 3 gigs left, and she's got about 100+ gigs of CF cards to go through and sort and then we have to burn back up CDs on my machine, and frankly, Finder SUXXORS when it comes to previewing images before downloading.
Xee is sweet, and does most of the above, but it requires 10.4.
QuickImageCM is also pretty good, but there is no multiple image view. It's a bit clunky, too.
We put JBrowser on her machine today, and she saw her pictures for the first time on something other than her camera viewscreen. Oh, did I mention she's a technophobe? She's a technophobe.
And she's defensive about it.
*sigh*
I love her dearly, I truly do, but the denial is really getting to me.

speaking about defenses....
Date: 2008-11-17 06:10 pm (UTC)Happy Birthday! And THANK YOU for gracing us with all your lovely pictures.
I'm pretty empty headed, but I do have an elephant's memory when it comes to acts of kindness. In my desperate hours, I will always remember you saying "cd332 come back to us!" and an offer to come visit ya. Even though there's all that distance apart and we're just online friends, it means a lot to me. It's one of the few internal defenses I can truly rely on.
have you tried Adobe Lightroom? It's much faster and more stable than Bridge.

Date: 2008-11-17 08:03 pm (UTC)Oh, we have our differences, m'dear. IMO, Camile Paglia is a wack-job, and we are NOT in a post-feminist era. But hey, I admire your bravery in the face of transgendered-phobia. You're a sister, a beautiful woman, a remarkable human being. And the offer still stands to come visit the Sierra Nevada.
As for Lightroom, I absolutely adore it, was an early adopter back in the beta days; and gods, I wish I could load it on my friend's computer, but it's a G3 and LR requires a G4. Arrrgh!
Until she gets a new computer, though, she should at least be able to view her stuff; She keeps buying CF cards instead of offloading them; And the computer is running dangerously low on hard drive space from all the crap on there; So she needs to be able to view and cull images quickly, both stuff that's on there now, and the 100 gigs or so on CF cards.
I've found a couple of freebie apps that will allow her to do that.

Date: 2008-11-18 10:36 pm (UTC)It could also be that the rest of the people on my list are ALL Wack jobs too. And I'm a wack job myself, so it's like me telling my friends to wear yellow-tinted glasses if they expect me to act more white. (photo color correction joke)
Well thank you very much for your kind words. I think you have successfully manage to nudge your way into AA's space when I now think about yosemite and the half domes. ;-)))
