NaNoWriMo nears the end.
Nov. 29th, 2002 09:36 pmIt's almost over. I can't believe it, it's almost over. With just under eight thousand words to go, it looks like I will be a winner, too.
I'm a bit in shock. I can't believe that I've come this far. I want to write long rambling journal entries on the joys of writing for just quantitie's sake, and not for quality.
Of the occasional gem. And the ton of bovine fecal material.
Of potential in the body of work,
and disappointment in what is there.
Reading will be painful, no doubt.
especially the 6,645 scrambled words
that are from another story entirely
and have no business there.
at all.
of wanting it to go on
of being so tired of that you just want to veg out
in front of IRC
or TV
or...
anything, really, that doesn't demand that you come up with word.
"You speak when you cease to be
at peace
with your thoughts"
Said The Prophet.
I know this: I have ceased to speak
but I am not at peace with my thoughts.
I have merely run out of thoughts.
I am not on mescaline,
I am drunk with the heady fragrance of words

They do belong, Edie. You said it yourself - they were written, by you, in the month of November. They qualify. Why should it matter that they weren't written directly into the .txt file of your NaNo story? It's not like these words are on a completely different topic. In a sense, they fit into the world of your novel, providing needed background information, even if not directly or obviously. They allow the reader to glimpse a bit of the world outside your story, and see the continuity of the mythos. They do belong, Edie, they really do.
If it makes you feel better, you could write to get to 56,645 and then call it even. I don't recommend or encourage it, though. If you make it to 50K, you'll have accomplished the goal of NaNoWriMo, and will have done it in the spirit of NaNoWriMo. You will have earned that "Winner" badge, and have nothing to be ashamed of. The goal of NaNoWriMo is to write 50,000 words, ostensibly on one subject, between 12:00 am on November 1 and 11:59:59 pm on November 30, that form a continuous story. You will have done that.
Now, quit beating yourself up, and go write!

Date: 2002-11-30 07:39 am (UTC)It is easily distinguished from the rest of the story by the fact that the only vowel is the letter "O". I did a find and replace all function to scramble it.
I did write it in Novemeber. But it is NOT part of the story that I am telling in To Hunt the Cunning Hare.
I am not going to let it disturb my sleep tonight when I finish the novel. I will try to write more than that amount, but I doubt I will.
See you in chat tonight!
