ambitious_wenchIt doesn't take much to keep me happy. I left my 10' x 12' dorm room at 4:35 AM in order to be at Mono Lake in time for sunrise. My roommate, Nimfa, may all the gods bless her, was understanding and forgiving of my stumbling in the dark. After a rather scarey drive during the first hour, I was clear of the road work and the pea-soup fog and sailing along Tioga pass toward Mono Lake. I arrived in time to take some early shots, and to set up this make-shift coffee dispenser.
For the record: Folger's Instant Crystals ("It's the richest kind!"--Mrs. Olsen), C&H Pure Cane Suger ("From Hawaii, growing in the sun!") MSR stove fuel, and JetBoil stove. Transportation by Saturn.
Now, for your tax dollars at work: Water supplied by NPS: Roads maintained by CalTrans. Mono Lake Basin Scenic Area, US Federal Gov. Gas taxes, Federal Taxes.
Friends and neighbors, while capitalism is well and good, remember this: It would have been useless to be able to buy coffee, or a car, or fuel for my stove, or even the stove itself if it hadn't been for the Federal funds that provided the infrastructure to allow me to get from Yosemite National Park to Mono Lake Basin. Or, for that matter, for the schools that gave me what education I have, the ability to write and share images over the intarwebs.
