feeling like crap today.
Aug. 22nd, 2007 08:21 amI've got the start of a summer cold, and so I'm staying home from work. So here's a rundown on what I've been up to lately.
Last Saturday I headed over Tioga Pass to Devil's Postpile. Those of you who pay attention to my Flickr photo stream have seen the pictures. Not only did I make it to Devil's Postpile, I also bagged my first peak (by ski gondola, Mammoth Mountain). Elevation 11,053'. It's desolate at the top of the world.
Then I took the Mammoth Lakes scenic route to the Earthquake Fault. Technically, it's a fissure, or big crack in the ground. Googling reveals that there is a lot of debate as to what caused it.
Another stop was to Obsidian Dome. The sun was getting lower in the sky, and here's this massive wall of chunks of obsidian. It was oddly beautiful.
Then on the way back home, I decided to take another side trip; A sign said Bald Mountain Lookout, 11 miles. No biggie, right? Wrong. The road was unpaved, and was basically a bed of soft sand the whole way. I made it fine, but had to take it easy because it was easy to swerve to one side or another. Once at the top of the mountain, I had a spectacular view of the Sierra Nevada crest to the west. Stunning. I want to be there at sunrise some day.
Sunday was spent mostly napping.
Yesterday I got my printer; It's a Kodak Professional 1400, a larger scale dye sublimation photo printer. I love my little EasyShare printer that I won a year ago at an employee party. This is the same process. I've already bought the print kit for it, and should be able to print out very high quality images next Monday when the kit arrives.
Last night I met up with Lee Stetson at Discovery View to shoot some portraits. You can see one of the shots here on my journal.
