You will note that I have changed my default picture avatar thingy from backlit autumn leaves to a rose. That rose is of the variety known as "Peace", and I grew that baby in a pot on my upstairs deck about 3 years ago. I also took the picture--it had just rained, one of those sudden downpours and then the sun breaks through black clouds, and if you're lucky you are treated to intensely brilliant and deeply colored rainbows. There was no rainbow that day, as I recall, but I remember being able to smell that rose as the air warmed after the rain. In the larger picture, you can see the raindrops on the petals. Those are basil leaves to the left, and the lower right.

I have specifically chosen this picture to mark my posts because we need to bring the beauty of peace to the world.

The link to your larger picture does not load, but it just may be a problem with this new browser.

I want to bow to your superior gardening skills. I'm thrilled that the crocus' I planted in the fall have come up without fail, in a pat, purple row. It looks as though many may have croaked due to the snow... Most things I tend to plant, (as it looks in the case of the Bearded Iris' that I also planted) die or mysteriously die or just whither. I am in awe of your green thumb and wish to god I had one myself.

So, here's to a skill I sincerely lack.

Amber, Try this one:

And you too can grow a rose that blooms this fair, and then watch it die over the winter.

I at least got a good picture of it.
