My neighbor downstairs drives a bus, and used to take stunning pictures, but her camera is broken. It's been in storage for years. Christine Loberg, one of my role models, and I are going on a hike to Hite's Cove on April 22 to take pictures of Wildflowers. Chris told me to tell Pam that she'd loan her a camera. Chris is one of my Heras.
Lat weekend I took the YARTS bus to Mariposa to visit overnight with my friend Karen. Karen is a sweetheart, generous with her hospitality. I love wandering around her neighborhood. On Sunday, I wandered up the hill to Magnolia's house, taking Molly-dog with me. Molly is a wonderful dog, gentle when not being exuberant. She tends to jump up on people to give them love.

Magnolia was in an accident some years ago; She worked as a fire lookout, in one of the tall towers all by herself. She says that the wind blew her off the tower, causing some nerve damage to her leg, and so she can't do much uphill walking. She lives with Charlie in her sister's house; She and Charlie painted the house purple, with green and yellow trim. Oddly, it doesn't look too bad. It's a delightful place, with flowers just starting to bloom in the yard, and various shrines all over.

I once met a girl from Japan who asked me why Americans turn their refrigerators into shrines. If you think about it, we do--pictures, cartoons, children's drawings, decorated magnets, notes, so much is revealed by what we put on our refrigerator doors. magnolia's house is like that.
