Your Pictures are beautiful as always.

... [livejournal.com profile] jazzmasterson poked me about helping you out with some portfolio stuffs. I can't really spare a lot of time until after the spring, if you can wait. How much help do you need? Let me know (via e-mail) and I'll do what I can. It's the least I can do, you know.

:)

Hon, I am so ignorant that I don't even know what to ask. I want to put together a portfolio of images that represent my range of vision, I suppose. Mostly I would like feedback on the images themselves--I am never sure if I am ignoring something truly wrong with the photo because I have an inflated sense of my own talent.

In your own time, dear. I'm in no rush.

A few quick observations. I have a headache, so take any acidity with a grain of salt. :

  • You have two nearly identical shots of Tenaya Valley Willows back to back. Loose the one which has a little grayer qualities (P1100134a_1).

  • On a similar topic go and name ALL of your shots that you put into the portfolio. Even if the are "Untitiled I", "Untitiled II", give them names, they make them easier to identify with, and not quite so "sterile". (Not to say your work is sterile, it makes the photos more accessible).

  • Right about at Badger Pass (your "old tracks in snow" shots) you reach a point in the portfolio where you have a lot of white. This might be a good spot to throw an impressive fall photo or two in, just to alieve the monotony. I might choose the Miniscule Mushroom photo and the Frost-coverd Fern. Likewise, after the snow photos, you may want to "bookend" them with a very impressive color shot. Such as the Rainbow. You could, on the other hand, work up slowly to blow someone's mind with the Rainbow picutre *last*. What I mean here, is go from your snowy shots (still interspersed with a dash of colour), work to the Deadwood, to lichen trees, to the mushrooms, to the fall leaves stuck in the grasses, to BHAM the Rainbow.

  • On a similar note, it is a good idea (even if you have a themed portforlio) -- or at least I was always told it was a good idea -- to begin and end your entire portfolio with your two best shots. Nto sure what those would be but I can help you choose.

I might, also, add more pictures. You have 30, which is a decent if largish size. I might add five more and see if that's an oppresive number to page through. I say this, just so you can have the opportunity to show a vast mirage of your ouvre. Not that you don't, as it stands, there's a great varitey of styles, adn shots that shows off your talent. I just don't wonder if there may be more. You can always cull it back down to your favortie 30.

Just a first dash of thoughts. More later.... More importantly, does this help at all?
