Seasonal whispers
Aug. 27th, 2005 01:39 pmHere in Yosemite, there are whispers amongst those who live here of places not visited by the guests. Those places change with the seasons. In spring it was the Devil's Bathtub. In summer, it was Sierra Point, and Hidden Falls.
Now there is talk of the hot springs, here in the valley. I have no clue where they are, but there are rumors of them from at least two sources.
Summer is winding down. One last push for the year is coming--Labor Day weekend.
Then it goes quiet.
Time for hikes, time for photography, and time, perhaps for writing again. Or going through several thousand pictures, cropping, playing with them in PhotoShop.
Perhaps, perhaps, for stitching again.
I took out my new backpack for a shakedown hike. Today my lower back is a bit tender, achy. Oh, for a backrub.
I'll be going to the Mountain shop to buy a damaged sleeping back, and a mat.
Petroglyphs do exist in this valley. However, I have yet to see ancient ones. All I've seen are modern images, smeared on creamy granite in gold-toned mud.

I've yet to climb Half Dome. I wonder if I will be able to climb it this year. I hope so.
I've heard there is grove of birch trees up beyond Little Yosemite campgrounds. I'd like to photograph it at sunrise.
So much to see and do here, and I have to work.
Itching to get out and do something.
