This is the summer of lemon-eucalyptus The scent fill my head, my room, follows me in a cloud wherever I go. I walk in an olifactory cloud of it, and forever I will associate it with my first summer in Yosemite. Sharp, and it tends to invade the sinuses with a treble note high enough to clean glass. Perhaps the scent of Calforna Bay will hold memories, or the maroon velvet flowers of the spice bush, but they will forever be overshadowed by the scent of lemon-eucalyptus lotion.
It's not your standard scent of insect repellant. It isn't chemical, but it cuts like a knife, leaves you slightly breathless.
It's not a scent conducive to seduction. Nor the taste. It tends to chill, to pull the emergency stop on the train of lust. Who could possibly be attracted to the smell of a lemon tree embracing the food of the koala?
The smell of lupines, reminiscent of grape kool-aid, can't hold out against it. It's foreign. It screens down the nasal passages, like a pack of Russian tourists, gaggling emphatically and sounding angry even when they are being protective.
I will stinck of it evben in the cold of winter, I will never be free of the smell of lemon eucalyptus.

First summer? Does this mean you'll be going back to Yosemite.... or you'll never leave it?
From the tone of every post, it seems like you've found Paradise. Either that or you're still in the 'silly with love' phase of a relationship. ;-)

Date: 2005-07-03 03:43 am (UTC)Perhaps it just is "silly in love" at this phase. I'll give it a winter to find out.
Oh, the pictures I'll be able to take!
