ambitious_wenchIt's becoming clear to me that my one remaining pet, Pyewackett, is ailing. Pye is very old--I think he must be about 12 years old. He's gotten very slow, he lays under my desk, seems to be slightly befuddled.
I'm not going to ask for money for diagnosis. Or to put him down. I received a generous gift (Thank you, you know who you are) and that will cover putting him to sleep. I'm not sure when I will do it. Probably before he gets too bad, within a week or two.
Should I get another cat?
I don't think so. I'm going to need to move, and having a pet usually means a larger deposit, and a narrower number of apartments to choose from. I am also considering living in a college dorm, if I can get the funding. Pets are not allowed in dorms.
I've had pets all my life. I am going to miss the warmth and weight of a cat on my lap.
This is the downside of having pets--seeing them get old and sick, and having to make the painful decision to put them down.
But it's still worth it.
Oh, Goddess, it's worth it.
