An odd sort of thing...
Jan. 16th, 2005 01:22 pmOnce in a while I'll run across something truly intriguing in my RSS feeds. I follow the Seattle Times for two initial reasons. It was recommended by a friend of mine, and I used to live in Washington State.
Since then I've been following it for a very good series on Capt. Yee, the Muslim chaplain charged with espionage. But today there was an article that really captured my imagination.
"Creative cremains: Novel ways of memorializing a loved one".
One of the things it mentions is the "Life Gem".
Oddly, this appeals to me. They are "created" diamonds. Carbon is extracted from cremains (cremated remains), purified, and introduced into a growing medium.
Not all of the cremains are used. You still have to deal with the rest of them. I rather like the idea of a garden sundial urn...
No, I'm not planning my demise. No, no active suicidal ideation. Just thinking of what I want done when the time does come. Of course, there's always
romeoblack's wishes to consider. He is my son, after all, and the one to either wear the diamond and lug around the sundial.
Morbid thoughts on a gray day.

It appeals to me on a strange level I don't understand.
