I found something interesting.
Nov. 14th, 2004 04:46 pmI had a hankering for pierogis today. Pierogies are little pockets filled with potatoes, cheeze, onions, sometimes with added veggies. You brown them in a bit of oil, and serve them with sour cream. They're Polish, which just goes to reinforce my notions that the Poles are pretty decent, on the whole. More on that later. So I went down to the local corporate supermarket, and began looking for them in the frozen foods section. I had my heart set on "Mrs. T's" brand pierogies. Potato onion is my favorite...But all I could find was this funky celo-wrapped brand I'd never heard of. "Pierogi Priest". With a rather cute icon of an Eastern sort of priest with the funky hat that sorta looks like a butt. I waffled. "Real Polish Pierogies" it claimed. It even had a Kosher (dairy) emblem on it. Then I saw it: "Our proceeds benefit various Children's Charities".
I bought them. Oh, I later found the Mrs. T's brand, and got those too. I just fried up a few of the priestly pierogies, with some chopped green onions, and some roasted sweet red peppers. The peppers were a mistake. I keep forgetting that they taste pretty nasty.
Inside was a white, stringy cheese, very mild in flavor. No potatoes at all...OK, still very good. Went well with sour cream. Yum. While I cooking them up, I googled for "Pierogi Priest, and damn if they aren't on the net!

Go, read, check them out! I think I may have to give up Mrs T's in favor of the Pierogi Priest. Yum!
