States don't elect presidents. People do. American people.

Do you consider yourself primarily a citizen of a particular state, or a citizen of a nation?

I think the electoral college stands in the way of the will of American citizens. What do you think?

I generally agree, however, I can see arguments the other way, too. One thing I'm sure of is that it will be a hell of a mess changing anything.

I think the electoral college is prehistoric and just does not work anymore.

I've been on a "do away with the electoral college" soapbox for weeks. It should be one person, one vote, tally them up. That's it. I feel like my vote counts less because I'm from New York, which drives me crazy. Why should political platforms (and campaign money and visits) only be geared towards a few swing states? Why should the popular vote be meaningless? Grrrr... don't get me started.

My kneejerk reaction is to say "Yes, let's get rid of it." However, I have done a lot of reading about it lately, and I can see the benefits of it. I am interested in seeing how it goes in Colorado, where they have revamped it so that the electoral votes are based on what percentage of popular votes each candidate got.

Yes, I think the electorate has the right to an attempt at a college education.

No, I believe that it should remain in place because I highly question our ability to function as a nation if we are trully and completely democratic. Besides, what difference would it really have made with W winning the popular vote as well? Checks and balances are everso important... although, I am a little vexed to hear that it seems the college was voting more on moral standpoints than economic ones, which is why they are supposed to exist because Joe Average can't focus on the economy for more than five minutes without getting bored.
