It's not necessarily burlesque. Maurice Seymour also took a lot of photos of raqs sharqi performers, and this looks like one doing snake arms.

raqs sharqi?

I love the movement of her arms, and the rise on her toes, and the tilt back of her head. But those arms are rather serpentine, aren't they?

And oddly, I thought of you when I saw this one!

Raqs sharqi is the correct term for what people colloquially call belly dance. It's Arabic, and translates to "dance of the east."

And yes, it's a lovely photo!
