I have numerous secrets, most of which are not my own. I carry secrets, carry them lightly, carry them like eggs or babies in a basket. I feel trusted, because each of those secrets was handed to me with a bit of fear, a bit of uncertainty. I'd listen, find a place safe within my memory for the secret. It is an act of courage to share one's secrets. It deserves the respect of silence, and of simple acceptance, the dignity of non-judgment.

That room is locked. Even I don't go in there very often, to view the shelves of secrets that line the walls. They are not mine, you see. I am simply keeping them for others, a way of validating that they are real, that they exist, and that they are sacred, for many reasons.

Have you ever heard me speak of other's troubles, have you ever heard me gossip? No lashan hara. I will not practice evil speech.

When I speak of others, it is about what they say in public. Or what *I* alone feel, and I own my feelings.

I do not speak of others in secret, I do not share secrets given to me.

Yes, I have my own secrets. They too are locked away, because if I share my own secrets too freely, I will lead others to believe that I will share theirs, too.
