I'm 44 years old today.

Today I turn 44 years old. It's not as bad as it seems. No, really. I rather liked being addressed as "madame" in Montreal two weeks ago. I'm no spring chick any more.

Baz Lurman advised the class of 1997 to "Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth".

I advise that you enjoy the power and beauty of maturity.

No more the little chirping of little birds,
I have the full voice of age, with a wide range.

I have been worn smoother with the constant friction of social interaction,

And yet, I have maintained my own identity.

I like this age. I am the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything, plus two.

And I think I look pretty damn good for a woman of my age.
