One of my all time favorite singers has also endorsed Barak Obama:

Leader on a new journey

Editor - I have attempted throughout my life to give a voice to the voiceless, hope to the hopeless, encouragement to the discouraged, and options to the cynical and complacent. From Northern Ireland to Sarajevo to Latin America, I have sung and marched, engaged in civil disobedience, visited war zones, and broken bread with those who had little bread to break.
Through all those years, I chose not to engage in party politics. Though I was asked many times to endorse candidates at every level, I was never comfortable doing so. At this time, however, changing that posture feels like the responsible thing to do. If anyone can navigate the contaminated waters of Washington, lift up the poor, and appeal to the rich to share their wealth, it is Sen. Barack Obama. If anyone can bring light to the darkened corners of this nation and restore our positive influence in world affairs, it is Barack Obama. If anyone can begin the process of healing and bring unity to a country that has been divided for too long, it is Barack Obama. It is time to begin a new journey.

This is starting to bother me. Are folks just in such dire need of a new JFK that they're blindly endorsing the first person who shows any sense of similarity?

Yes. Yes, we are in need of a new JFK, and the Camelot he evoked in our communal mind.

Good gawds, Jeff, look at the last 7 years; the economy is in the cacky, the world hates us, we owe our future to the Chinese loan sharks, we're in a war with two fronts, the government has lied and lied and lied to us.

I'm more afraid of gay bashing than I have ever been in my life;

I'm scared and I'm cold and I'm poor and I live in terror that I'll get sick and not be able to get health insurance; HOW THE FUCK does that compare to some boogeyman terrorist that Georgy Porgy keeps threatening me with?

Damn straight I want another JFK. Hell yeah. FUCK yeah.

As I understand it, that didn't exactly end any better than the fantasy Camelot did. Of course it ended before I was born so I only have the history texts from which to read about it.

And we have done nothing to change it at all. We have essentially accepted that there is nothing we can do and just let it all go. Even our elected leaders have taken the same tack.

Obviously, Bush's boogeyman doesn't compare at all. Yet by our inaction, we tacitly approve of what he (Bush) is doing.

Damn straight I want another JFK. Hell yeah. FUCK yeah.

I expect many people are going to think the same. My fear, though, is that they will get what they want and then poor Barack will wind up assassinated ... just like JFK.
