So, anybody on my flist getting worried about the new overlords of LJ? Anyone thinking of bailing to another online journal? Discuss.

I've already bailed to insane journal. A permanent membership there costs the same as one year here. Over there I'm ChickGoneBad (http://chickgonebad.insanejournal.com).

Thought about it, but there's no incentive to do it yet. Nothing has changed about my LJ experience, except that I was forced to give them a fake birth date. I probably will not give them any more money, but I don't see the need to move just yet.

I have been having issues with LJ for some time now. After Strikethrough '07 (deleting fanartist/fanficcer journals without warning because of alleged underage content), they said "whoops, our bad, we won't do it again". Then, under pressure, they did it a second time (Strikethrough '07 part 2, as it were).

Then came the "adult content" flagging BS.

Now, the new owners- some are saying "can't be worse than 6A", but I'm worried that they're going to try to make the site more like MySpace and Facebook based on some of the things they're saying.

I have a greatestjournal- I don't like that website much, though- and an insanejournal as well. Also a Vox, but that is for posting about my life and tends to be rather bland, so I am not worried about "adult content" BS as I would have to be here. I mean, who is LJ to say that sexual content is only for people over 18 or 14 or whatever-the-crap? I have been aware of sexuality since I was something like 12. While I'm not saying that's necessarily good, or should be the norm, I also don't think that other people should have all that much power over the sexuality of whoever they decide isn't mature enough to be sexual.

Iiiii ranted. TL;DR: I have other blogs, but I will probably stick around LJ for a while yet- as long as more things don't start going wrong.

This is part of the argument that my roomie and I have been talking about- okay, so you make all this crap on LJ 18+, what does that teach minors to do? No, not actually leave it alone- just lie about their age.

*facepalm* gg, livejournal. Really.

I have an Insane Journal in my name, permanent account. I'm in the process of backing up and moving over. I don't want to leave, but this is far, far worse than the strikethrough or the adult content thing. I still have 9 months of time on it, so I'll probably use the RSS features to keep up with friends who stay.

IJ is welcoming folks, and even better, the fellow who runs it is actively engaged in it, and is actively working to improve things. Can't beat that- Brad never did that.

Worried, yes. Something is massaging the neurons responsible for my "gut feeling" and not in a nice way.

Not going anywhere though. I have paid time until May so I'll be here until then. At that point I'll either stick around or stop blogging. Don't feel like moving anywhere else and starting over from scratch.

But I'll be hanging around Cotse forever I'm sure. :)

I'm not renewing my paid membership, and if things get weirder I'm going to bail. Same with Facebook and their apparently privacy-invading new banner advertising system. Rather than get a new blog, though, I expect everything that gets popular on the Internet to wind up being bought out and ruined by idiots, and may well never blog again--or at least not blog as long as I can hold out from the psychological addiction.

Comrade, what is wrong with the new ownership of LJ? Membership from the Motherland is rated second highest here on LJ. It only makes sense that someone from the Motherland should own LJ. We should drink, comrade, to this glorious change for the better. :)

I've had no dramas with LJ, and being somewhere that I only really post on my random musings, that's all I ask for. Also, seeing as I have a free account, all the payment debarkles and whatnot doesn't really effect me. Meh, so they're Russian. As far as I'm concerned, it's be settled by their actions. Who knows, they may actually be good for LJ!

I'll certainly be keeping an eye out to see how they handle things, but it's not like the old overlords were doing such a crash-hot job.

I'm considering going to a self-hosted journal on my .Mac account or on my DynDNS address. The more I consider what LJ has been through in the past year, the more I'm getting concerned.

I'm definitely not renewing my subscription here, as I've stated publicly in the past.
