Outgoing Homeland Security Advisor: terrorists attack before elections.

Frances Townsend has decided to step down from her position as Homeland Security Advisor; In a recent interview on NPR* she said something that made me wonder.

She pointed out that terrorists attacked in Spain shortly before elections, and that it may happen here.

Man, I am so not sure that Bush/Cheney will be leaving the whitehouse in Jan of 09.

*I can't find it, unfortunately, but it happened Monday AM, during Morning Edition.

I recall hearing this, and thinking of you at the time. However, I stand by my earlier statement (re: Pakistan) that it won't happen.

Mox and I have been speculating that if the current usual suspects wanted to make a power grab, the best time for a big terror attack would be after the '08 elections and before the inauguration of the next round of usual suspects, so they could claim National Emergency as a reason to grab onto power.

It's depressing that I find this scenario as plausible as I do - although I still wouldn't call it likely.

I think it's more likey the GOP will find a way to beg, borrow, browbeat or steal outright the '08 elections. They've managed enough shenanigans the last couple of times that I would be surprised if there weren't several instances of "electile dysfunction."

For that matter, I don't really trust the Democrats not to cheat, either, since the GOP has done so well by it.

Sometimes I don't think I live close enough to Canada.

What she left out of her post is that if I was a gambling squirrel, I'd place my bet on Black Friday 2008 as the (Republican-planned) terrorist attack date. And it will be aimed at several suburban Walmart and mall targets across the country during the early morning special sale rush to maximize the carnage and terror.
