legislation that protects a woman's right to choose and supports the
landmark Roe v. Wade decision that first recognized this constitutional
right. I appreciate hearing from you.
I absolutely agree with you that Roe v. Wade is important to women's
rights, women's health, and public health. That's why I am a co-sponsor
of the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act (S. 2593). S. 2593 would make
the Roe v. Wade decision a federal statute. This bill would prohibit any
federal, state or local government from interfering with a woman's right
to choose prior to fetal viability.
I support this legislation because I firmly believe it is up to a
woman to determine whether and when to bear a child. I have worked hard
to combat attacks against a woman's right to choose. I led the fight
against outlawing health insurance coverage for abortions for women who
are federal employees. I spoke out against legislation to ban abortions
for military women stationed overseas. I fought to make sure that people
convicted of violence against women's health clinics can't declare
bankruptcy to get out of paying their fines. You can be sure that I will
continue to fight to protect women's reproductive rights.
