Greetings from Mosquito central

ambitious_wenchWell, things are finallly settling in to a routine. I alternate betwee walking, biking and riding the shuttle bus to work; Hiking is easier, and I'm losing weight still. I need to go trade in my uniform pants for a smaller size. My tightest jeans are now loose on my hips and waist!
I finally caved and shaved my legs. Malada, let's burn our Unshorn Sisters of the Apocalypse membership cards together! Shorts are the order of the day, it's getting warmer up here now.
Only problem is the mosquitos. All this water from the snow pack tends to sit in the valley and provide prime breeding grounds for the little bastards.
Lots of them have met up with their karma. I just wish that there were more birds to eat them.
So I go around with large welts on my legs and arms, not a pretty sight.
Loyd, if you're reading this, put this in Yosemite Blog: Bring mosquito repellant if you're going to Yosemite. Hang it up if you're anywhere near the Merced River, though, no matter what you do you will be bitten. They are swarming down there, and no amount of repellant will help.
To all my friends: I'm sorry, but I haven't been keeping up with my f-list. I have limited on teh internets, and so I tend to scan briefly.
As much as I love my WiFi Den of Iniquity, it's a haul to get out here, and often I have a rather intimidating ride home in the dark. With the bears.
You know, I have been here over a month, and still haven't seen any bears.
I need to start accumulating backpacking gear. I want to do some back country hikes, and need to be able to bring things with me. Well, in the mean time, I need to get more in shape. That means more day hikes.
I think I'm going to try for Nevada Falls this weekend. Payday tomorrow!
