Wildlife in the valley
May. 15th, 2005 01:56 pmThis morning I saw my first Coyote! Not much to tell, really. It crossed the path in front of me as i was headed here to the Ahwahnee lodge. It didn't stop to beg for food, and I made no attempt to call it over. I'm a good doobie--but how cool would it be to pet a coyote and not get bit? How painful would it be to have to take rabies shots?
Took a hike up to the top of Vernal Falls--yes, that's me being intrepid explorer dyke in the previous entry. The falls are very full this time of year--and even moreso because of a 170-180% snow pack this year in the high Sierras. It's WET going up Mist Trail to the top of the Vernal Falls. I think they should rename it the Monsoon trail.
Silly me, I frgot to take a rain poncho. Got wet to the skin, but had a lovely time drying off in the sun on the granite slabs at the top of the falls.
Over 600 stairs to the top, and that's being kind to use the word "stairs". Lots of jumbled areas, with very high "steps'--many of which are 1.5-2' high. Yes, my calves are a bit achy today.
It's another gogeous day--we're expecting some flooding due to the warm weather--Indian creak runs through housing, and they've put up sandbags. Peak flood should be tonight.
I doubt that my building will be affected. I'm several yards from the stream, and live on the second floor. I'll be fine, other than wet feet wading out of housing!
