Of the Milk and In the Belly
Feb. 8th, 2003 10:57 amSnow is mixed with rain
Joy replaces pain
Lambs begin to cry
Hear the mothers sigh
Mouth is seaking breast
Winter's back is broken
Milk giving strength till the green grass grows
Fears are laid to rest
Words of hope are spoken
Bright days ahead though the cold wind blows
Winter turns to Spring
Hail the Solstice king
See the growing light,
Dispell the gloom of night
Deep withing the Earth
Seeds of life are sleeping
Touched by the sun through the damp and cold
Celebrating birth
The rite of Brigid's bed keeping
Watch for the buds as the roots take hold.

When Robin and I sang this song at a Pagan conference in CT many years ago, there was a man standing in the back of the room who was signing the words to this song. I stopped called him forward to share the stage with us, and had the pleasure of seeing the dance of words his hands performed.
Oimelc means "of the milk", and refers to the lactation of ewes. Imbolc means "in the belly", or pregnant.
Blessed Candlmas/Brigid's Day/Lady Day.
